What is Legal Aid? 

Legal aid is a government assistance to provide legal representation to those who cannot afford to pay for necessary legal services.

Who can qualify?
  • A Dutch national who has been registered at the census office 
  • Anyone who is 18 years or older 
  • Anyone who has an income of less than minimum wage per month. 
  • Anyone who has an income above Fls.13,200.00 up to Fls.22,500.00 per year in a labour case (for partial legal assistance)

What documents must be submitted?

  • ​Legal Assistance Form
  • Legal Request Requirements​​​
  • A complete legal assistance application form 
  • A registration form from the census office
  • A copy of passport and a valid ID card 
  • Proof of income – salary slips, pension letter(SZV, APNA, GOVERNMENT, etc)
  • Proof of loans (if applicable)
  • Proof of legal guardianship of minor children (if applicable)
  • Income Tax declaration/statement from the year before

When do I contribute?

Payments are made only for legal assistance in labour matters. The amount one should contribute is as follows:
  • Fls. 1.00 to Fls13,200.00 -- Fls. 0.00
  • Fls.13,200.00 to Fls.15,000.00 -- Fls. 50.00
  • Fls.15,000.00 to Fls.17,500.00 -- Fls.125.00
  • Fls.17,500.00 to Fls.20,000.00 -- Fls.225.00
  • Fls.20,000.00 to Fls.22,500.00 -- Fls.350.00

How long before I get an answer?

Applicants should expect a response within 2 weeks after submitting their documents.
