In February, six new operators started their operator function training, at the Maritime Operation Center (MOC). This 11-week course aims to familiarise all new colleagues with the skills and knowledge essential in the maritime world to operate as an operator.
During the training, they are taught in various disciplines, including maritime law, national law, search and rescue, wet law, English, Dutch, maritime communication and customer service. In addition, they visit important partners such as CITRO and the Meteorologische Dienst, with which we work closely.
The MOC forms an integral part of the Operation Center of the Coast Guard and serves as the first point of contact for local chain partners in Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Saba and Sint Eustatius, as well as international partners.
In addition to their search and rescue responsibilities, the Coast Guard monitors and carries out search tasks in the maritime domain. This includes tasks in the field of maritime border surveillance, fisheries and environmental supervision and acting as an initial point of contact for the Coast Guard. In close cooperation with the crew of Coast Guard units, they coordinate all maritime operations.
The growth of the Coast Guard is a promising sign for the future, with these new operators playing an essential role in ensuring maritime operations and enforcing maritime law.
